Pharmacopalliation

Looking forward to hearing from Dr. James Ray about Pharmacopalliation in Serious Illness on Wednesday, October 4th at 12:00 EST. While we want to provide whole-person and goal-concordant care, the medical system emphasizes medications for symptom management. I am thrilled to hear some advice for how to navigate the landscape of medications that may be non-beneficial and potential drug interactions that may make us more hesitant to use certain medications at the end of life.

James B. Ray, PharmD, CPE is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Applied Clinical Sciences and holds the Otterbeck Professorship in Hospice and Palliative Care in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science at the University of Iowa, College of Pharmacy and a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine in the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Dr. Ray is a founding member and currently the President-elect of the Society of Pain and Palliative Care Pharmacists.
