Our best series of lectures yet continues with Karl Bezak, MD and his lecture titled “Connecting with Compassion: Telepalliative Care for Hospitalized Patients with Serious Illness.” Karl B. Bezak, MD, HMDC, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh in the Section of Palliative Care and Medical Ethics. He completed medical school at Vanderbilt University, internal medicine residency at NewYork–Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell, and fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City.
Dr. Bezak currently serves as the Director of Innovation and Technology for the UPMC Palliative and Supportive Care Institute, where he leads telepalliative services across rural communities, partners with the UPMC Health Plan on community-based models of serious illness care and provides inpatient palliative care with a focus on advanced pain and symptom management, communication, and complex decision-making.
