The Bow Tie Model

Looking forward to hearing the lecture from Dr. Pippa Hawley on “The Bow Tie Model of 21st Century Palliative Care” on Wednesday, August 2nd at 12:00 EST. Dr. Hawley started as a general internist trained in he UK, New Zealand and Canada, and started the Pain & Symptom Management/Palliative Care program at BC Cancer’s Vancouver Centre in 1997. She remains the provincial lead and has been advocating for early integration of palliative care into oncology for many years. Pippa is a clinical professor at the University of British Columbia and was Head of the Division of Palliative Care from 2012 to 2022, not Associate Head of Research. She completed a clinical trial on the use of symptom severity threshold-based supportive/palliative care referral which will be published in the fall edition of the Canadian Oncology Nursing Journal. Pippa is the co-author of the patient-directed book “Lap of Honour: a no-fear guide to living well with dying”. Click on her picture to watch the recorded lecture!
