It was an amazing lecture by Dr. Milagros Silva on the role of Medical Interpreters in serious illness communication. (Spoiler alert: they’re so much more than oral translators!) It is so important that we use every tool at our disposal to provide excellent, goal-concordant care to all patients, especially those with limited english proficiency.
Dr. Silva is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and an attending physician in the Division Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medicine. After her Palliative Medicine fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, she joined the Division of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine in 2014. Her educational and research interests focus on improving the delivery of palliative care services to Limited English Proficient patients.
